Ugh. Paste’s profile of Free Energy made me kind of hate them. So does your review. It’s this unctuous defense of good-time rock-and-roll ("we’re just here to party, and we’re awesome!") that seems more self-serving than fun-loving.

that inescapable feeling you are referring to, is that like when you hear something and you could have sworn you heard it before because of the nostalgic catchy quality? or is is like when you’ve heard a band exactly like said band?
great post by the way!

This comment stream is so meta. Great review Kelly.

no prob. The whole album is excellent, combining some of the harder sonics of Los Angeles with the meat of his debut and obviously difficult to summarize in only 50 words…
I’d say it’s on par with the debut, but better than Los Angeles.

rock and roll for everyone.. I enjoyed the videos, but I think I’ll enjoy more if I’m actually there, when will their next concert coming? cant wait to see them again..
I love Radiohead - it’s a bitter-sweet love, though. They don’t necessarily make me happy, but they’re beautiful and mind-blowing creative in their art. Even their acoustic stuff speaks to me. It’s just that they make sadness so appealing. It makes me depressed and yet I’m drawn to it. Crazy how they mess with my head.
Thanks for the videos, Joshua. I agree with Apple, I’ll totally enjoy it live (and the shouting audience won’t be so distracting). AND their N.American tour is coming up!

have seen them twice and no other band is layering the sound texture live like they are. they r a must see before you die...and yes, they are also the most unamused band on the planet
