The electro-pop fivesome from Bristol, England Chikinki came to Austria for a one night stand at Club Weekender last Friday and I decided to test drive a new venue and check out a new band...new for me, at least.  It turns out that they have been together since 1996 with 5 albums released since 2001.  They were in Innsbruck promoting their latest effort, Brace Brace.

I hadn’t heard of them and didn’t know they were coming but decided to radio in a photo pass when a friend of mine picked up a ticket for me.  I navigated to their MySpace page to get a sense of what I was in for and, if I am being honest, didn’t make it all the way through even one of the 4 tracks they had up.  Sometimes it’s better to leave room for a surprise but I wanted a taste before hand.  After my failed attempt to like their studio tracks I decided to just go anyway and have fun with my friends and practice some rock shots.

As it turns out the tracks on MySpace were not representative of their live show and that was a good thing.  The electro-pop label fits, in my opinion, but they walk the line between pop and rock and roll.  The organs mixed with the guitars in an unexpected, unpolished way and the Austrian kiddies rocked so hard that even if the band wasn’t good I might not have noticed.

Check out more photos of the show right here and learn more about this band that is certain to find it’s way to the USA in the not-so-far future right here.

love that melophobe has more “couples” reviewers, and more “Ian/Ion/Ian/Iain” than the average site…

Hey Merseilles did a live web show at sonicbirds office gig on Friday that was pretty spectacular. Can anyone find a copy of that?

Kelli Shaefer’s songs get stuck in my head non-stop. Every other day I find myself waking up with one in there. And that’s a good thing, she’s a talent!
