Wampire, made up of guitarists Eric and Rocky, performed at Holocene producing a very mellow and groovy sound, much to the crowd’s delight. They rocked barefoot with painted faces, long shirts and sparkly pants, each playing killer guitar to catchy sounds from a computerized unit. Wampire told me their name was German for Vampires, and they chose it because they liked the way it sounded. I, too, liked the way Wampire sounded. Be on the lookout for their new cd due to be released by Work/Sound on July 11th.

Logan Lynn has a voice that put the audience in a trance. Crooning to hip, mesmerizing beats and sounds coming from DJ Carlos, Logan sang honest, heartfelt lyrics. Carlos drove the laptop at just the right speed, issuing paradise meticulously spun like a shimmering web, capturing us all. Logan Lynn’s music is unique and original, yet has a warm familiarity. I was reminded of velvet-voiced artists like Sade, with his skill at using vocal range so smoothly and beautifully. Logan advised that he was inspired by several female artists like Innocence Mission. I totally enjoyed his strong lyrics throughout, e.g.:  “Burn me with cigarettes until I obey / Punish me backwards cuz I’ve been bad / You don’t take no prisoners. . . .” Sweet!

Intense, beautiful, and hypnotic are all words that describe Deastro, a hip energetic band from Detroit, Michigan, whose performance drove the crowd absolutely wild. Lead vocalist and musician Randy Chabot gave it his all, gripping the microphone with both hands, pouring out his heart and soul, filling the room with an electric energy magnified by the driving force of bass, drums, and guitar. The echoing, haunting guitar and lyrics permeated the crowd, adding just the right amount of spice to the upbeat, puppeteering rythyms. Songs like “The Old and the Treaturous” were so awesome that it made me want to dance, jump up and down, scream, and sit and chill to the sounds all at the same time. Intelligent lyrics with kick-ass music is a hell of a combination. Chabot shared jokes with the crowd and let his warm, caring personality shine through, advising that we would all have a sense of awe if we could really see what is inside of people, and that between us all, we can figure anything out. The name ‘Deastro,’ a GI Joe character, means ‘from the stars’ in Portugese. This band consisting of Chabot, bassist Brian Connelly, drummer Jeff Supina, and guitarist Mark Smack, are all definitely from the stars. Check out their cd Moondagger; it’s a must-have in your collection!

Check out a sick interview back\slash Magazine did with LMFAO about how they blew up in a down economy, the struggles of entrepreneurship, and getting high.

who’s got this show covered? Not sure if I can make Boston, know that Portland isn’t in the mix, and this needs to be fixed.
