The good folks at Daytrotter left the safe confines of the Midwest to bring Barnstormer 5 to the East Coast. melophobe caught the first stop in Kittery, Maine, and despite power problems and the venue shutting down before White Rabbits could play, we had a fantastic time. Check out our other coverage of the night: Doug Paisley; Guards; and We Are Augustines.

* * *

We’ve been following Deer Tick around the country pretty much since we first heard of John McCauley’s musical project (Portland, Austin, Boston--heck, we even saw them on a boat). This was probably the tamest we’ve seen them (no set list fires, like the night before), but that doesn’t mean the show wasn’t a full-blown, rockin’ party. The band treated us to sing-along favorites like “Ashamed,” as well as a handful of covers, including “Maybellene” (sung by bassist Christopher Dale Ryan!) and “Bastards of Young.” Yea, we’ll pretty much follow these guys anywhere, and from the looks of the rest of the singing, arm-pumping crowd, we’re not alone.
