I managed to catch the second half of the Drew Andrews set and snap a few photos though I failed to take notes, so my apologies here for some lack of detail. Andrews, joined by his backing band are a rather low key indie rock group that plays pleasant if not breathtaking songs with floaty melodies and easy to listen to vocals. Trading guitars and keyboards the group seemed a little shy on stage though I didn’t notice anything they should have been worried about.
The overall effect was a little bit like a relaxed version of Jeff Buckley or another certain famous musician, who I initially struggled to identify before realizing the song I was reminded of was “Black Star.” Dare I say that Drew Andrew’s voice actually sounds a bit stronger and richer than Thom Yorke’s, though he draws the sounds out of the notes in a similar, rising fashion. Drake would definitely be worth catching again, perhaps in a venue where the crowd is a little better focused and able to appreciate the gentle effects of Andrew’s intimate style. He also performs as a member of The Album Leaf.

It was a great show. The energy was intense. I was lucky enough to be right up front.

Love these photos and review. So, these DJ sets are at 7:30? I don’t really get it. And are these gonna continue once the Whitney moves? And most importantly, where can I attend an “hour-long clinic on shaking ass?”
