[Our fearless team, Nicci Boots and Ian McNeil spent three days listening to an obscene amount of fantastic music above the stunning Columbia River Gorge in George, Washington. Check out all our coverage here, over 30 sets from a who’s who list of indie music.]

Now, I’ve been floored by an Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros show before, so my expectations for their set at the festival were pretty gigantic. They’re such a c’mon, get happy kind of clan, and it seemed the beauty of The Gorge, and free lovin’ ideals of the crowd would be the perfect foundation for a killer ESATMZ performance. But apparently the sun (and the very available narcotics swirling around the campgrounds) dampened the group’s lively spirit. Their set was definitely sloppy and lacking of the energy I’d seen before. The crowd definitely got into it, though, and there was plenty of dancing and hugging going on throughout the show. And don’t get me wrong – while this show might not have been their best, I still have lots of love for this band of groovin’ gypsys.
