Ingredients:

1 part Bjork vocalization (Starts at 1:45)
2 parts Martina McBride
Three cups full of bottled lightning
Four parts Black Keys mechanization
A Dash of Black Paint

Grace Potter at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston split her time between playing on a Hammond organ, a Rhodes piano and various electric guitars. Impressively, she arranges the keyboard instruments so she can sometime play both the organ and piano at the same time. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are no less impressive in everything from the bass, to the lead guitar, to the drummer. Incredibly, they play one “song” where the entire band plays the drum together (see photo below). What’s not to love about a group that can pull that off?

And then the vocalizations? The studio tracks do not do Grace’s voice justice at all. This woman can sing, she can sing loudly and she can sing for hours. It’s simply stunning, which elicited the Bjork comparison above. The compliment is meant to say that you can imagine Grace Potter taking on any musical genre with her voice alone.

I’m converted. Go see them live before they blow up and you’re 50 people back.

I loved that part of the concert too. If you liked that photo, you’ll like photo 13 from the Paradise Rock Club show in 2007.

Great post! Really digging the new record a lot. The Rainwater LP has some gorgeous moments - definitely recommend checking it out. There are 3 of the new songs up on the myspace page: myspace.com/citizencope

love that melophobe has more “couples” reviewers, and more “Ian/Ion/Ian/Iain” than the average site…

Hey Merseilles did a live web show at sonicbirds office gig on Friday that was pretty spectacular. Can anyone find a copy of that?
