Japandroids - Yard Dog Gallery (SXSW 2010; Mar. 18)

It hadn’t been a quiet afternoon at Yard Dog Gallery: The Smith Westerns had sufficiently warmed the crowd and The Rural Alberta Advantage had gotten people moving with a short, tight set. Yet, Japandroids were a shot of adrenaline directly into the veins of the Schubas’s 14th Annual SXSW Roundup. Then again, Japandroids would likely energize a riot, if playing nearby. After a quick mic and sound check, Brian King and David Prowse blasted into take-no-prisoners tour of their 2009 LP, Post Nothing. In other words, thirty breakneck minutes of hooky, fuzzy garage rock. I didn’t know whether to dance, shout along with the choruses or just look on in wonder at the seemingly never-ending supply of energy being burned on stage. Armed with a couple of cameras, I chose the latter.  But nearly everyone else in the crowd had picked one of the first two. Damn, it was fun.

Two songs go in, one comes out. Pick a side.

Twin Shadow - Five Seconds

Also, I have yet to pay this venue a visit, is it good spot? good people, good vibe, good atmosphere?
