jj had been one of the artists I highlighted early on in my SXSW planning. Elin Kastlander’s haunting voice over genre-mixing, soothing compositions promised a performance I would not soon forget. I was correct, in that I won’t soon forget jj’s performance, which was complete shit.
jj’s show consisted of the following elements: Kastlander sitting in a chair holding a guitar that she did not play; a computer, playing the backing music to the entire set, along with random video (at one point it was playing a video of jj singing, while she was singing on stage - crazy!); Kastlander alternating between looking bored, embarrassed, shy, drunk - she was probably the last. That’s it. After the computer had run it’s playlist, she unplugged her guitar and left the stage.
