Let’s Wrestle is a cleverly named English band consisting of Wesley Patrick Gonzalez, Mike Lighting and Darkus Bishop. That’s pretty much everything I knew about them (except for their names and that they were English) before I saw them perform at the Fader Fort on March 18. Such is the case for a typical SXSW outing where some kind of sponsor (in this case Levi’s and The Fader) have set up a tent (fort) and plied you with alcohol during a day long 10-set musical smorgasbord.

Let’s Wrestle’s music is guitar driven and with song titles like “I’m OK you’re OK” one gets the feeling that the band might be taking the piss. (The 0 posts on their blog despite it being featured on the Myspace page doesn’t exactly help you take them any more seriously). But just when you’re ready to write them off, the band pulls out the stellar “I Won’t Lie To You” where lead singer Gonzalez intones “No matter how many records I buy/I can’t feel this void” and “I won’t lie to you. I can’t see if things are getting any better/I won’t lie to you. I can’t see the end.”

Maybe these guys are serious after all.

Are these guys at all related to either Let’s Whistle or Let’s Whittle? Because I love both of those bands.

“Mindkilla” is awesome. I’ve got this music video last week and really impressed through watching every performance particularly “Glass Jar”. Thanks dude. :)
