Paolo Nutini came to Portland on September 14, and he and his band absolutely rocked the Crystal Ballroom!
His usual stage presence was fun to watch and loved by the fans.
As a photographer, I did not have my usual and much appreciated photo pit to shoot from. For the first three songs, I got to shoot from behind stage-left. This allowed me to look straight into the fans’ eyes and watch their love and devotion towards Paolo.
He sings hunched over and loudly into his mic. He faces the crowd and is really only a couple of feet away from them. His stage energy was amazing. Very inspiring and fun to watch. I was surprised no over jumped up on stage, actually, there was so much energy in the room. By no means was the ballroom filled to the brim, but the few hundred people who were there packed themselves to the front of the stage like happy, happy sardines!
Paolo is such a young performer—born in 1987 in Scotland—but is already so big in the music industry and so talented, with his song and lyric writing. With his mix of rock, pop, reggae, and jams, he has tunes capable of pleasing everyone, from every walk of life! I suspect he will be around for a long, long time . . . .

I was there in the front row and saw Paolo in 7 concerts that year throughout the United States. He is a musicial genius on stage and never disappoints. As kind and humble a musician as you will ever find.
