Pair two of the industry’s favorite post-punk bands, book them at Capitol Hill’s notorious Neumos, and you’re guaranteed a sold-out concert. Cursive and Alkaline Trio each have such long, solid careers that even getting on the radio didn’t destroy their following. They brought up-and-coming The Dear and Departed along on tour: you might already know their lead singer, Dan Smith, from reality show L.A. Ink.
The audience had mixed responses to The Dear and Departed; as to be expected with their lack of morbid lyrics. However, fans of the other two bands screamed along with every word and left dripping with sweat, in complete satisfaction.

It was a great show. The energy was intense. I was lucky enough to be right up front.

Love these photos and review. So, these DJ sets are at 7:30? I don’t really get it. And are these gonna continue once the Whitney moves? And most importantly, where can I attend an “hour-long clinic on shaking ass?”

Number 9 makes me jealous/inspired. Well done Katie!
Thanks Colin! It’s all about the timing with concert photography… I tossed similar shots without the smoke
