The evening of music at Berbati’s Pan was amazing. Headliner Quintron & Miss Pussycat unleashed a heavy dose of “Swamp Tech” on the crowd, leaving them partying and sweating, being urged to take their shirts off. Their sound was awesome, coming largely from Quintron, the multitalented lead vocalist, organist and drum synthesizer player. The man invented a rotating–light activated analog synthesizer called the Drum Buddy, and he plays everything all at the same time as he sings. Impressed the hell out of me! Along with Quintron was Miss Pussycat, who opened with a killer puppet show, kicking off the sounds. She sang and played maracas, churning to the unique sounds that need to be heard firsthand. I had a chance to speak with Quintron before the show who turned out to be a very nice as well as a talented guy.

I also had the awesome pleasure of seeing Sophe Lux at this kick-ass concert. Being a Portland-based band, they of course have a special place in my heart. That said, even if they were from the moon would I have loved the hell out of this band!! They have an amazing, distinctive blend of sounds and I absolutely loved it. Lead singer Gwynneth Haynes has a voice that stands with the best of them, and she can belt it out big time. The rest of the band can rock the guitars, keyboards, drums, bass and vocals to send you in a frenzy. The rock–opera sounding “Marie Antoinette Robot 2073” is a song that I will love and enjoy for years to come, just as I enjoy timeless classic sounds that will never be dated. Not only all of this, but their influences range from John Lennon, Billie Holliday, Kate Bush, Bowie, Ghandi, Queen, Dylan… No wonder they are so deep! Check out their sound. Get their cd as well. You’ll love it, too!

Always a pleasure to see was the Plants. They, too, are Portland-based. Molly Griffith and Joshua Blanchard, a husband and wife team, took me to another place again when I watched them perform and let the sounds soothe my spirit. Killer psychedelic folk can’t even begin to describe their sound adequately. It’s unique and full of beauty. I saw them perform a while back and I was very pleased to see them perform again. They have the type of sound that you don’t get tired of. It’s always fresh and new. Molly is a classically trained musician, playing the keyboards and the cello, accompanying Joshua, as he plays the hell out of the acoustic guitar. The vocals are sweet as honey. I have been wanting to get their cd since the last time I saw them. Go listen for yourself

Support and enjoy these bands, because they are three unique and talented bands with individual styles.

I saw this show as well. Quintron & Miss Pussycat were AMAZING! I was so impressed by both them and especially Sophe Lux. I had never seen Sophe Lux before but heard them on NPR and read about them on Boing Boing. It was a great surprise to see such a talented and yet entertaining and artistic band. The lead singer performed an exorcism for America as part of the song from their song “Hungry Ghost.” The band is fronted by three beautiful and talented girls wearing shiny silver costumes. The lead vocalist belts out potent operatic rock like a female Freddie Mercury. Cool show. I am an official fan of both bands now. Thanks for the post and pics!
