Following Starfucker’s catchy, energetic set at the My Old Kentucky Blog showcase, Red Cortez (formerly The Weather Underground) failed to inspire much reaction from the majority of the remaining crowd in the Radio Room.

It’s not that Red Cortez was that bad, they were just not that memorable. Frontman Harley Prechtel-Cortez is a good looking guy, and has decent stage presence, but neither his singing nor the band’s sound left much impression on me. That’s too bad, since Red Cortez sounds pretty good, from listening to their MySpace afterward - driving rock with hints of blues and soul. Perhaps they need time to tweek their live sound, as a handful of dedicated fans who clearly knew the music stood up front, singing along and flashing their cameras. The rest of the audience, myself included, remained unmoved.

I love Red Cortez. How anyone couldn’t be moved by them escapes me...........they ooze passion and energy.

that inescapable feeling you are referring to, is that like when you hear something and you could have sworn you heard it before because of the nostalgic catchy quality? or is is like when you’ve heard a band exactly like said band?

great post by the way!

no prob. The whole album is excellent, combining some of the harder sonics of Los Angeles with the meat of his debut and obviously difficult to summarize in only 50 words… smile I’d say it’s on par with the debut, but better than Los Angeles.

WHO WROTE THIS...PUKE ! “WHO WROTE THIS...PUKE !  “Picture yourself coasting your bike past space funk palm trees, homeless harpists, vintage video arcades, electronic drum circles, and 60s psychedelic singers who’re waiting for the bus. Cosmogramma is kinda like that if someone suddenly tripped you just as you’re starting to enjoy the ride. But in a good way.””
