The day after I saw Sleepy Sun, someone asked me what type of music it was and I was at a loss for words to describe it. Their sound is unique, not in the sense of a brand new sound never heard before, but one that was created out of the influence of previous decades’ music, choice uncommon instruments, and two striking vocalists.
Six band members all contributing their craft is what I imagine has guided the sound of Sleepy Sun. A late 70’s psychedelic instrumental back drop with a touch of maracas and the occasional harmonica, topped off by a sturdy lulling male voice plus one intensely skillful female voice make for one ear-catching band. I found myself getting excited when the harmonica came out, being an unusual but integral compliment to the songs it appeared in. This was a brilliant touch giving even more credence to the already deliberate sound of the wailing guitars, heavy drums, and harmonizing voices.
The next time I have the opportunity to see Sleepy Sun, I’m jumping at the chance. When else do I get to listen to songs climax with an uncontainable passion for music?

Hey Merseilles did a live web show at sonicbirds office gig on Friday that was pretty spectacular. Can anyone find a copy of that?

Kelli Shaefer’s songs get stuck in my head non-stop. Every other day I find myself waking up with one in there. And that’s a good thing, she’s a talent!

nice pics Chris. Don’t you love it when the artist brings some cool light. It’s a bunch of low hanging fruit after that.
