In all honesty, I was completely charmed by Tom Brosseau. Live. Like most singer-songwriters who rely on sharp lyrics and subtle vocal inflections, Brosseau is best enjoyed in person: just his voice and a guitar.
Brosseau is an expert storyteller, his songs both poignant and humorous. Equally captivating were tales of the Great Flood of North Dakota and dreams of David Grohl bound in chains. Unlike Sam Amidon, who simply confused me with his music/standup routine, Brosseau’s dry sense of humor enhanced his performance. The highlight of his set was “Big Time,” a lovely new song off his latest album, Posthumous Success. Without the overbearing production of the recorded version, Brosseau’s honest, nearly delicate voice cut through the room as he pled “I’m ready for the big time.” I’m not sure if this is true; however, I do know that his performance won me over.

Ugh. Paste’s profile of Free Energy made me kind of hate them. So does your review. It’s this unctuous defense of good-time rock-and-roll ("we’re just here to party, and we’re awesome!") that seems more self-serving than fun-loving.

no prob. The whole album is excellent, combining some of the harder sonics of Los Angeles with the meat of his debut and obviously difficult to summarize in only 50 words… 
I’d say it’s on par with the debut, but better than Los Angeles.
