TRUE ROO: BONNAROO Friday (June 12, 2009)
Think about your two absolute favorite bands. OK, now, how did these two bands happen to enter your musical life? For me, one of my favorite bands happened because some people who had the power to influence me told me to start listening to that band, so I did. For my other favorite, I stumbled into one of their shows completely by accident and was hooked immediately. I would bet most of your stories out there are similar if not the same. We find music either by being influenced or completely by accident. Rarely do we find music through gritty old-fashioned research. Such is the beauty of Bonnaroo. Whether someone you trust tells you, “You gotta see this band” or you just happen to walk past when somebody is playing, you can find something new in addition to the shows you know you will like and have the most complete musical weekend imaginable.
After taking in 14 consecutive hours of music yesterday, only the true highlights are going to make it into this Fabulous-Friday review. We’re trimming the fat and getting straight to the meat here at Bonnaroo. Here we go!
Started the day around 3pm with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. They were perfect for the timeslot because they’re a great act to listen to while sitting down. This pays huge dividends later at, say, 4am when you’re still going and need every drop of energy you can find. Unfortunately, I didn’t really think about this until 4am, so I was standing up during Grace Potter. Whoops. At least Grace can belt those country blues, so although the time was used imperfectly, it was far from wasted.
Following this was a failed attempt at seeing Bela Fleck and Toumani Diabate. I got as close as I could to the stage but sadly could not hear the music. I only knew they were even playing because some people down in front seemed to be jamming out a little bit. Gotta turn it up Mr. Sound Man...I know it’s a very mellow show but people who got there mid-show deserve a chance to listen too. NEXT!
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were up on stage two. I like them because their song “Maps” was the first song I ever scored a 100% on expert in Rock Band. So they earned over an hour from me, a solid Bonnaroo investment. They dropped nice pop tunes that were easy to digest. On top of that, I give them a lot of credit for never really stopping, but instead going into these 2-3 minute psychedelic vignettes between songs and then seguing. Their set had a nice flow and the crowd was very responsive.
Figure out this lineup: King Sunny Ade has a 13 member band, 7 of whom are dedicated to playing percussion. I can just imagine the conversation between band and fest management now:
King Sunny Ade manager: “We’ll need 13 passes please.”
Bonnaroo management: “I’m sorry, you’re on the 5th stage at 5:15, you cannot bring your entire entourage. Springsteen only got 8 passes.”
King Sunny Ade manager: “We have 7 percussionists.”
Bonnaroo management: *stunned silence*
In all seriousness though, I’ve never enjoyed a show so much where I didn’t understand a single word of any of the lyrics. They had great Nigerian beats and very complicated vocal arrangements that seemed to exist in space with no time signature. I have no idea how they were nailing these complicated vocal harmonies with no beat and no instrumental backing. Great show.
TV On The Radio was another band that came recommended that I haven’t gotten into yet, so I figured this was my shot. They were funky and creative and just left-of-center enough to be intriguing. I stayed for their entire show and found them fun but I think their fans were enjoying it more than I was. Just a personal preference thing. Can’t win ‘em all, but I’d give them another shot!
Sound like a full day? Think I’m done yet? It’s only 8:30 folks, the day is just starting. Viva Bonnaroo!
I want to preface this next paragraph by saying that it pains me to write what I am about to write. I take no pleasure in bashing this band at all, but I have a duty to report the facts. This band has been with me for about 15 years and for others even longer. They are one of the most influential hip-hop acts of all time and they’re even brilliant instrumentally on top of that. Oof, this is going to hurt....gotta do it...here we go....
The Beastie Boys put on one of the 5 worst concerts I have ever seen.
There, I said it. What a letdown. No energy at all. They sounded and looked tired and unrehearsed. They left out lines sporadically in many songs. You know when you sing along to a song that you know well and you sing maybe 90% and fudge those few lines that always get you? Well, that’s fine if you’re you. If you’re the original artist of that song and you’re being paid to perform it in front of tens of thousands of people, you better know the whole tune. Furthermore, there were 2-3 minutes in between every song where they just talked uncomfortably into the mic about nothing. Come on guys, it’s hip-hop, cut a few songs together, you should not have 3 minutes of song followed by 3 minutes of rest for the entire show! They’ve dropped The Sound of Science for the sound of silence. To close the show, they completely trainwrecked the opening to Sabotage and had to start over. Then in the part where the song pauses and restarts into the scream, they trainwrecked that too and you could hear the scraping sound of the energy level hitting rock bottom. I’m sorry I went. I like the Beasties a lot and it will be hard for me to ever think of them the same way after this performance.
Next up was the evening’s main attraction, Phish. It was the biggest show of the fest so far, the biggest crowd, the most anticipated, their own huge light rig...basically every advantage conceivable. That being said, believe me when I tell you that within the first 3 minutes of the Chalkdust Torture opener, Phish had completely blown every other act clear out of Manchester, TN. It was all over like when one of those mixed martial arts guys knocks someone out with a ridiculous move in the first 5 seconds of a fight. The crowd energy surpassed that of every other show I had seen all day put together. They seemed to take their Bonnaroo show very seriously, as every band should but not all do. They acted like they had something to prove, which is quite a notion for a band as established as Phish. Holistically, the current Phish package is that of a band possessed. They’re playing a huge chunk of the classic catalog flawlessly night in and night out now. Their new material sounds very good and there’s more of it than anyone could have expected. Phish didn’t get to be the kings of the jam scene by taking their music lightly, and I have a suspicion that, somewhere inside, they have a competitive spirit and still want everyone to know who the champs are. They’re the same age as the Beastie Boys, and the juxtaposition of seeing Phish kick ass on the same stage that the Beastie Boys had just polluted an hour earlier was incredibly glaring. What a show. I cannot wait for Sunday.
It’s now 2am and Bonnaroo gets turned over to the ÜNTZ! I caught all of Crystal Castles while waiting for Girl Talk. Crystal Castles rocked excellent techno weirdness. They successfully blended some good house beats with psychedelic electronica that had no beat but could still own your mind.
Following this was the most devastating conflict of the entire weekend for me: Girl Talk vs. Paul Oakenfold. Certainly a case of the challenger vs. the champ, the young savant vs. the established veteran, Little Mac vs. Mike Tyson, etc. I started with Girl Talk. As per usual, the stage was packed with fans within 1 minute of the show starting and Girl Talk lost power a couple of times as people tripped over his wires, but the party was instantly insane. People just eat this shit up, it’s unreal. The beats, the crowd surfing, the stage rush, the inflatables, the visuals...this party had it all. Just crazy.
After about 45 minutes of that I made the obligatory trek to pay my respects to Paul Oakenfold, one of the godfathers of electronic music and a show I consider to be potentially once-in-a-lifetime. I stayed with him for over an hour as he traced a very cool theme of taking a common song riff that everyone knows (such as the opening guitar lick to The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and expanding it via an electronic turbine of seemingly infinite sonic possibilities. I felt like he had just taken the best sampling and beat-making skills of Girl Talk and combined it with the freakish ambiance of Crystal Castles and combined them to make something even greater. Of course, Paul Oakenfold needs not answer to either of these acts, but I just thought it was cool how he could do what both of those acts were doing at the same time. I enjoyed his set a lot. The only thing is...his tent had half the people and 1/4 the energy of Girl Talk’s tent. Granted his tent was full with about 2,500 people grooving around, but this was nothing compared to the unbridled near-orgy happening at Girl Talk, so I went back for the end of Girl Talk. GT blew the tent completely apart in the last 20 minutes, busting out new mixes and also a huge balloon drop from the ceiling. This was one of the singular most insane shows I have ever seen. What an act Girl Talk has going.
So there you have it folks. 10 bands, 14 hours, and there are still two days to go!
Before I go, big ups to the awesome people at the Bungaloo tent for furnishing use of their computer and internet and allowing me to write and you to read! Bungaloo is the official color provider for Bonnaroo 2009, check out their website.
Back to the fray today for full doses of The Mars Volta, Of Montreal, Nine Inch Nails, and MGMT, among others. Let’s Roo it!

The Beastie Boys messing up theyre “CLASSIC” material is still 10 times better than listening to Phish “Jam”...next you’ll say The Greatful Dead and Dave Mathews are better live than the B Boys?...I wasn’t there but lets get one thing straight, The Beastie Boys are not mere mortals, They are living gods, If Jesus Christ made his second coming and flubbed a few bible verses I think it would still qualify as a miracle...Of course the crowd was amped for Phish, It’s Bonnarro, Tennessee, Below the Mason/Dixon Line...Hillbilly Moonshine Country. What would happen if Phish tried to out do The BBoys at the All Points West Festival In NYC Late July? They might not even qualify to play a tent show...The Beastie Boys have been the best live act for 20 years and if they just stould on stage and told stories about what they had for breakfast it would surpass Phish and theyre “Jam” session...you need to let the acid where off before you compare the Bboys to phish again, They are not even in the same ballpark!
There is no comparison! I caught Phish in Knoxville last week and they were absolutely the best band that I have seen since the last time I saw Phish (and I have seen literally hundreds if not thousands of bands in that period). Please don’t get me wrong, the beasties are/were quite talented in their particular genre, but Phish defies categorization. Phish can flawlessly move from Jazz to bluegrass to blues to rock to barbershop to ambient to psychedelic to reggae to lounge to..... Each band member is an absolute virtuoso on their instrument. Bonnanroo leaned upon Phish’s incredibly successful huge outdoor festivals for it’s model for success. It’s quite possible that without Phish, Bonnaroo (and the Beastie’s set) would not exist at all. BTW, I am a huge Phish ( and Dead) fan who is NOT on drugs and I grow tired of inferences by those who are completely ignorant of the facts that all phish fans are druggies! Phish, the Grateful Dead and other jam bands have always represented peace and harmony with your family, neighbors, and the environment, could the same be said about the BBs? Would 100,000+ people travel from all over the world to see noone but the BBoys, and in the end no violence or crime against persons were experienced? This has been the case with Phish on several occasions so far!
No offense just love and peace!
~Om Mani Padme Hum~
Great article .... totally agree the BB’s sounded like old guys yelling
Are you Phish fans serious?...tonight my wife watched Awsome I Fuckin Shot that on Fuse even though I have the DVD it was just too great to turn the channel...right after, there was a Phish concert and she said after 10 minutes if she had to sit through a whole 30 minute show she would blow her head off...i said, “Honey, this group plays 3+ hours at some shows. She could not believe that. The Beastie Boys are just as much about peace if not more than phish 1. Tibet 2. Adrock using the podium at the VMAs in 1999 to speak out against violence at concerts 3. The BBoys advocated the end of crowd surfing in the 90s...etc. i could go on & on. To wrap it up Dont you dare say its because of Phish that the Beasties even get to play Bonnaroo because they dont need Bonnaroo, I am not disagreeing that Phish has a fan following and thats great...im sure George Bush did to or else he wouldn’t have gotten elected twice does that make him better than obama???
The Beastie Boys have always given the fans a great show and for 25+ years have been one of the best live acts in the world, period
You said Phish can do it all? remind me which member plays the turntables??? lol
Phish = Snore zzzzzzzzzz snore
BBoys = “there are not words that justify the awsomeness”
I’m gonna do some online research on Phish tonight...I bet They and the BBoys have mutual respect for each other’s careers and music but Live shows
BBoys = 9.5/10
Phish i will rate after watching more footage and hearing more bootlegs but from what i have heard
4.5/10 at best
PS - I’m trying to play poker,
remix a song & take care of my one year old daughter as i write this so forgive me if it sounds like the rantings of a mad man :)
Who cares if BB didn’t do every line exactly like you remember from the album--if you wanna just hear that go listen to it at home! Intergalactic was amazing!!!!!!!!! (even if they did say pinch on the neck from Dr. Spock at the end--i thought that was hilarious)
In your two posts, Flavorburst, you managed to insult Phish, their fans, Bonnaroo, Tennessee and basically anyone that lives in the south. FYI, not everyone at the Roo was from there. Furthermore, Phish is from the northeast so I’m guessing they could hold their own pretty much anywhere - even New York. And I echo the sentiments of dhuggett that not all Phish fans and Deadheads are druggies. Unfortunately, I wasn’t at Bonnaroo, but I did see Phish in Knoxville and aside from a couple of brews and a little second hand smoke, I was stone cold sober and I thought they played beautifully. Sure they made mistakes, just like the Beasties apparently did on Friday, but they were still really solid.
I get it - you don’t like Phish. It’s not your cup of tea and that’s perfectly fine. But to come here, bash the band and make generalizations about their fans just seems lazy. The original poster wasn’t bashing the Beasties at large or their fans. He was merely disappointed in their lack of preparation or tightness, if you will.
I will say your post indicates a willingness to check out a little more Phish before finalizing your opinion and I really respect that. If you’re interested, I can make a few recommendations of shows that display the abilities of Phish.
Thank you Doctor...The intent of my argument was not to insult anyone. I actually do like Phish, A few weeks ago I even picked a song by them to Karaoke to. There are a couple songs I sould even listen to over and over and never get bored.
Now...The beef of the argument is this...Everyone is diferent, I would never ever ever go see Pink Floyd live even in theyre heyday circa 70s...I am not turned on by a light show, Balloons, 20 minute guitar solos, etc.
I downloaded 3 Phish high quaility live show torrents last night and i’m halfway through.
I don’t “Not” like them but here is the difference, I found myself distracted and reading blogs, playing online poker, downloading music as I watched...It was all just for a better lack of term “There"…
Now The Beastie Boys from the second they step on stage I can’t take my eyes off the action, “What Instrumental will Mix Master Mike” drop next”?...What funny dances will Mike D do?....What lines from classic songs will Ad Rock Change to incorporate an inside joke that i might never get the punchline to.
I can see a Phish type band at a local pub here in rural upstate ny any weekend, grant it they might not be virtuosos on Guitar, Keyboards, drums but close enough to string together a bunch of decent songs.
I can’t see ANYTHING like the Beastie Boys without seeing “The Beastie Boys”
To conclude…
I like Phish, I listen to phish when I feel the mood strike, I karaoke phish, I would even casll myself a fan of the music as I like all forms of music...DooWop, Reggae (Dancehall mostely), Hip Hop, Jazz, Swing/Big Band. Zydeco, Punk, and on & on.
IMO Beastie Boys Vs. Phish in a live performance goes to Beastie Boys. Might not be fair because I was in the front row at Roseland ballroom in NYC November 1992 When they almost tore the building down with a 5 star performance and have been to every tibet freedom concert not to mention seeing them on a few other occasions...I have never been to a live Phish concert can only go by Video and sound of shows.
I would like to hear the opinions of fans that have seen both live and what they liked and didnt like about the experience.
PS - I REALLY did enjoy the cover of Beatles “A Day In The Life” on one of the Live shows from last month. Please recomend your favorites and I will download :)
And remember, this is a debate not an argument, we can all get along with different opinions. Variety is the spice of life!!! ;)
You forgot that girl talk only played a 2 hour show. Oakenfold raved on from 1:45am-6:30am. pretty much five straight hours of trance and rave. gotta give props to paul and all his devoted fans that stayed for the whole show.
As a fan of both bands, I must say that Flavorburst’s posts only exemplify his ignorance. Both bands have experienced much success. While the Beastie Boys have achieved much greater commercial success, Phish has far exceeded them in terms of live performances. Phish rotates their setlists nightly with nearly no repeats on a night to night basis. They have well over a hundred original songs to choose from that they play regularly whereas the Beastie Boys probably play 30-40 (tops) and always close with Sabotage. On top of that, Phish has hundreds of covers they pull out on any given night whereas I have only heard of the Beasties covering a handful. It is very difficult to compare these two bands objectively, but in terms of live performance, Phish puts on a much more diverse and unpredictable show.
Grover you are crazy...just watching one song on Fuse the other night by eacvh band tells the whole story...Beastie Boys Doing a GREAT songs with all of theyre shirts dripping in sweat including Mix Master Mike, Phish sitting there like old men (Look at the drummer) strumming guitars for 4 minutes without any vocals putting the whole crowd to sleep. I prefer Quality over quantity so It is far from ignorant to think 20 Great songs by the greatest band ever (Including the beatles who couldnt stay together more than a decade) than a shit load of boring cover versions by a - I won’t call them “Has Beens” but “Never Was” grroup like Phish. Your ignorance shows because you know how boring phish songs can be but won’t admit it
AND ONCE AGAIN I ASK: Whick fucking member of Phish plays the Turntables?!??!
This isn’t 19 fucking 69 and the summer of love. Totally one dimentional and The Beastie Boys will be selling out arenas and selling millions of albums with great “ORIGINAL” songs long after Phish is gone...You know I’m right so don’t ever call me ignorant again. That I am far from. How did BBoys Vs. Phish Live even become an issue...its a no-brainer
Lets say its Late 70s...Who is better live, Pink Floyd Or Ramones?...Ramones unless you want to sit there tripping on Acid, Mushrooms, X, Whatever and watch a light show and listen to 10 minute guitar solos.
Grover, I am not so rude as to call someone ignorant I guess you just have mediocre taste when it comes to what you want in a live show.
If you didn’t rely on broad, inaccurate generalization - 10 minute guitar solos, entire crowd being on ‘Acid, Mushrooms, X’, etc. - then I wouldn’t claim you are ignorant. It’s obvious you know much about the Beasties, if you knew that much about Phish (or anything at all really) you would have some credibility. It’s very obvious you don’t.
hey grover...answer the question moron, which member of Phish plays the turntables???
First, let’s not resort to name calling. I said you were ignorant because you don’t seem to know much about Phish. That’s not an insult; only people with limited vocabularies use the word ignorant as an insult.
Second, no one in Phish plays the turntables just as no one in the Beastie Boys really plays the keyboards. Phish did manage to pull off a pretty accurate cover of Sabotage though despite this fact (and hearing the review of the show where the BB aborted it twice, maybe they played it even better than the writers of the song). I would like to see the Beasties cover a Phish tune… actually, maybe I wouldn’t.
The fact remains that Phish’s sound doesn’t require turntables so it’s a moot point. I’m not sure what you’re trying to prove with that argument. It is self-evident from listening to live recordings of each band that Phish are superior musicians technically. Obviously the Beasties can craft amazing rhymes and songs and that’s why they have gone platinum umpteen times, whereas Phish has not. They are two very different bands.
This argument is silly as there is no reason you can’t enjoy both. The only people losing out are those that are too close-minded to enjoy both. I know I managed to hit the Baltimore BB show, some of the Bonnaroo show, and all of Phish, so where does that leave me? I’d argue much better off than anyone who chose just to see one or the other.
i dont get more that 3 sentences in your crap and your wrong already...Money Mark Plays the Keyboards for the Beastie Boys?..do you know anything?..and you better sit down, he’s better than the keyboarest for phish, yes, its true.
I’ve tried to sit through phish concerts that i have downloaded...i cant make it without nodding off
Watch Fuse Tv when they show the hour of highlights again...i watched a couple times last night...Beasties were incredible as usual, phish played some lame song about the brother of a werewolf, it sucked, dude sang some shit that could have came out of the mouth of any two bit muscision from Vermont, Ben or Jerry could haved pulled off the same vocal range...then...omg, 5 minutes of these never wases just playing guitars and drums and keyborads with no direction or purpose, wow, like getting a tooth pulled.
During the beasyie boy song people were jumping up and down when they showed the crowd during phish the most you saw was a head swaying or bobbing a tiny bit, thats what people want to see at a live show?
no wonder this country is going to shit
just watched a clip of phish doing sabotage...LMAO, are you serious?...wow, these guys must brainwash people to listen to them...worst cover song ever. grover are you playing a practical joke on me?...i know what you write cant be what you really think.
ok...here is a test for you grover to see if you even qualify as a fan of live shows?
Phish or Insane Clown Posse?
I dare you to make an argument for Phish...Nuff’ Said, Debate won by flavorburst as usual. You think its easy being the world’s greatest Musicologist?...its a gift and a curse.
Flavorburst, I’d love to read your musicology dissertation. PhDs make me tumesce.
Ari...your not witty or cute and i am sure you do not have 1/10 the music knowledge i have so go smoke a doobie and twitter someone who cares
>>i dont get more that 3 sentences in your crap and your wrong already…
I didn’t get two words into your half literate diatribe before finding improper grammar, and I couldn’t complete the first sentence without finding a misspelling (you’re), let alone punctuation and capitalization. Yet I’m the reason this country is going to shit and not hot-tempered blowhards with narrow opinions like yourself…
>>.Money Mark Plays the Keyboards for the Beastie Boys?..do you know anything?..
Who exactly plays keys then? I just saw them a few weeks ago in Baltimore and it looked exactly like him from where I was standing. I could be wrong, but he has been on albums and performed with them before, and I didn’t see any of the original members of the BB playing the keys at all. Please enlighten me.
>>I’ve tried to sit through phish concerts that i have downloaded...i cant make it without nodding off
So because you have a short attention span they suck? I occasionally get bored listening to jazz greats such as Coltrane and Miles Davis… does that mean they suck too?
This appears to be Money Mark behind the keys at Bonnaroo:

Either Flavorburst is incredibly stupid or he’s a (PT green board?) troll making ridiculous claims just to keep the argument going.
first of all I write freestlye as i think and don’t bother spellchecking but whatever…
The debate is who is better live
There is plenty of great music i listen too on a daily basis…
Perry Como, james taylor, Kingston Trio, John Mayer, etc. i could list thousands. One of my new fave songs is one that i hadn’t heard by Peter Gabriel that was used in the final episode of scrubs called “Book Of Love”...I sat here yesterday listening to it with my one year old daughter falling asleep in my arms and the emotion of the song and my little girl combined had me in tears. i LOVE all forms of music, a wide variety but there are not many bands worth seeing live. 3 Bands That are probably the best ever live are
1. Beastie Boys
2. Insane Clown Posse
3. Bloodhound Gang
I went to a local casino/racetrack recently with free tix to see Tommy James & The Shondells. Last year Herman’s Hermits. I would go see Phish if a good opportunnity presented itself as I am far from closed minded about any music. I took this as a debate and since I took the pro Beastie side I made strong opinionated remarks that are pro beastie boys. That’s all
I still have no idea what your point on Money Mark is?..he is the keyboardist for the beastie boys.
Let’s get friendliar and make this thread less hateful…
What are some other groups you have sen live that you like?
what was your favorite Phish show either you went to or own on CD/DVD?
What are some of your other favorite artists?
You make some good points and maybe i sound like a fanatic when talking aboput the beastie boys but the word “Fan” is short for fanatic so yes im a fanatice, they can do no wrong in my eyes. I like hundreds of artists but am a “Fan” of only a few. My hard drive has 85,000 mp3s and you can assume that they are not all Beastie Boys :)
Where do you live grover?...any chance you will be making it to All Points West festival. I am almost as excited to see Vampire Weekend as I am the boys.
PS - call me ignorant but what is a PT Green Board?
What’s your point about “Who plays the turntable?” ?? Phish doesn’t need to rely on sampling other artists to make music.
Insane Clown Posse? Get real!! If I owned a glock and a dew-rag, MAYBE i’d listen to them. Doubtful though.
White-boy wanna-be rapper in rural upstate NY ----> get a clue!
your ignorance is all in your alias of a name...you should love all music, and i have news for your...nether ICP or The Beastie Boys are Hip Hop Bands, they are just 2 of the greatest bands period over the last 20 years, theres your clue now do some research.
Last but not least...the only thing you got right was the wjite. A world renowned Musicolist is a far cry from a wann-be rapper
Nice try Hillbilly :)
I’m not sure why a ‘world renowned musicolist’ can’t spell or put together coherent sentences. Why don’t you reveal your real name so we can research your credentials? Maybe then you’ll be taken seriously…
did i happen to mention that i am a self proclaimed musicologist :)
And my 1 yr old is usually on my lap when im typing so spelling be damned
You do have a point here. I have read a lot about this on other articles written by other people, but I must admit that you have proved your point here! Will be back to read more of your quality information!
auto insurance company directory
Flavor, if you haven’t realized it yet, Phish plays a style of music you probably haven’t listened to much. Its called jazz. Ever remember when your dad used to tell you you have to get used to jazz to appreciate it? Phish is the same
But thanks for your skewed opinion. Phish playing a tent at All Points West. You are a fool. They are one of 3 headlining acts at Austin City Limits in Texas this October.
Not to mention that the guitarist with his solo band headlined All Point West a few years back, but nice to know you did your research
flavorburst you know nothing. Your saying people are wrong and that your right because you know what music is better? Music is subjective. Who are you to say what is better and what isn’t.
And if we are going to say who is more talented it is clearly Phish. Coming up with catchy rhymes doesn’t make you better. Phish concerts have more energy than any Beastie Boys show ever has.
Santana, BB King, The Allman Brothers, Leroi Moore, Jay-Z, Eric Clapton and countless other musicians are fans of Phish. Are you going to tell those greats they are wrong?
And not that Phish isn’t pretty popular, but when has popularity ever determined who is better? Miley Cyrus would win that contest over the Beastie Boys washed up asses any day.
Phish plays a different show and tries completely new things every night. Not just jamming. The Beastie Boys job is not nearly that hard. They don’t need to come up with new material or learn new songs on a nightly basis, and they don’t have people downloading and critiquing every concert they play.
You, are very ignorant to Phish.
