Basia Bulat - “Heart Of My Own” - Bin It

text: Janine Cipolaro

In the tradition of coffee shop open mic, Bulat gives us Heart of My Own. With choruses of “I love you so,” I’ve forgotten it already. The instrumentation is varied, but predictable. The closing track, “Hush”, a gospel number, is definitely worth a listen, but not worth suffering the rest.

Reminds us of: Tracy Chapman’s lilt | Sara Bareilles | The girls’ floor in the college dorm

ouch! She was fantastic live, but I didn’t enjoy her first album. Guess I’ll avoid this one, too.

I completely disagree with this review! And whoever is writing it is clearly an idiot!

You’re certainly entitled to your own opinion but no doubt you appreciate the more mainstream—perhaps Britany Spears?  Here’s a quote from the highly regarded Pitchfork. “Bulat’s rare, extraordinary voice makes her a fresh find in the notoriously musty folk-pop bin. Graceful and incandescent, confident but approachable, her alto’s the aural equivalent of the perfect party host who makes every guest not only welcome, but certain they’re the most important person in the room. It probably goes without saying that Bulat’s flush with feeling lyrics aren’t going to appeal to the more cynical consumers of singer-songwriter fare.”

@Carol: You are right in that we are each entitled to our own opinion. Perhaps you should back yours up with a reasonable argument instead of simply copying sentences from Pitchfork.

I’m not sure if we can trust this pitchfork. I just read a review of them on Yelp. Only 2.5 stars.

I completely disagree with this review, to a large extent. Seriously, I never ever comment but Heart of My Own is a incredible album. Not the best ever but defiantly not “bin it”.

“Mindkilla” is awesome. I’ve got this music video last week and really impressed through watching every performance particularly “Glass Jar”. Thanks dude. :)
