BLK JKS - “After Robots” - Bin It

text: Ben Davis

With After Robots, South African BLK JKS have released a mediocre product. While displaying a wide range of influences - from African rhythms to alt-rock guitars - these elements never become a compelling whole. The album feels flat, and with lengthy, dark, dreary songs, BLK JKS unfortunately leave me thinking of Dispatch.

Remind Us Of: The Clash | Dispatch | Pink Floyd combined with Phish combined with bad

After Robots to your liking? You'll sweat:

I heard an earlier version of this song, I think it was off of one of the LSTN compilations.  I liked the older version better - a bit darker, not so cleaned up, and quite a bit rockier.  Check it out and it might change your perception of them for the better.

I’d like to clarify that for this show they cut off the back half of Neumo’s floor with a curtain and had the upstairs bar closed. It made Neumo’s obviously seem much smaller than it is. Unfortunately, now having seen Neumo’s fully open at another show I can say that this show was very empty. Still White Denim and Brazos rocked.

I agree, it’s very good. Way to deflate their balloon.

Love the photos. And that “Walkabout” song is the drugs.
