If Ralph Waldo Emerson was correct in observing that “genius realizes and adds,” then boy genius do not deserve their moniker, even in an ironic lowercase. The reed-thin vocals and jangly guitars frolic irrepressibly in another era (think Reality Bites rather than Singles) without contributing anything new to today’s canon.
