Castanets are twin shells bound by rope meant for holding in the palm and clicking together rhythmically (like Indian hand cymbals). Castanets are also a band from Portland, Oregon who put such unusual instruments to good use. Imagine Folk-Americana revived with cosmic sound effects, lap steels, and Caribbean drums.
