Los Campesinos! - “Romance is Boring” - Borrow It

text: Shelley Gaske

The charm and sweetness from previous releases is lacking, with song names as long as fortune cookie sayings trying to cover that up. Themes favoring sex over love make some songs feel as rewarding as a (forgettable) one night stand. The mix of boy/girl vocals is the saving grace here.

I’m loving the new female lead vocalist; I always wanted to hear more from her, particularly when the old gal (who I loved anyway) would hit some of her less in-tune passages (eg the recording of “Please Don’t Tell Me To Do the Math(s)")

Otherwise, though, I’m sad to agree. I had such high hopes, but after REPEATED listens, this one just isn’t as spectacular as the first two.

I’ll still listen to it, of course, as I think there are some gems, including the track on offer here. And I’ll get back to you with which others are equally compelling.

yeah, I still love them, but this one just missed the mark for me.  I’m having a great time going back and listening to their other stuff though!

It was a great show. The energy was intense. I was lucky enough to be right up front.

Love these photos and review. So, these DJ sets are at 7:30? I don’t really get it. And are these gonna continue once the Whitney moves? And most importantly, where can I attend an “hour-long clinic on shaking ass?”
