The Blakes - “Souvenir” - Bin It

text: Dylan Conlin

I regret to inform you, but in the process of reupholstering the velvety interior of rock and roll circa 1969, The Blakes spilled beer between the seats of its creativity, burned cigarettes into the side panels of its listenability, and most unforgivably, vomited all over the floors of its originality.

Lad, you wouldn’t know great rock and roll if it walked up to you and shook your hand and introduced itself.  John Lennon would recognize his Hamburg roots in The Blakes.  Mick and Keith would say “That’s how the follower to ‘Let It Bleed’ shoulda sounded.” Ray Davies would just pronounce them sublime.

There was definitely a guy surfing in a wheelchair. I tried to capture it with my camera, but it was a total blur. He came over the barricade 3 times. The first time, he came over AFTER his wheelchair.
