Most hip hop fans remember when Southern rap started making a push for legitimacy. It started underground with the Geto Boys and the artists on Rap-A-Lot, but later moved into the Deep South, and more specifically into Georgia; Atlanta to be precise. And what lived there was a mass of talent that would usher in a sea change in hip hop, a new direction and collectively they were known as the Dungeon Family. Separately, their ranks included Outkast, Goodie Mob and a group of soon-to-be super-producers that would mold the Southern sound. It’s kind of unreal how many good artists were in the same space and working together.
