I’m a sucker for a lot of things. One of them being a good performance video. I mean, to this day, when I see Eddie Vedder, I still think about him swinging around in the Even Flow video and screaming out, “This is not a TV studio...JOSH! Turn these lights out!” That’s good stuff. So, I was naturally excited upon hearing that Cameron Crowe (he who giveth us that wonderful love letter to music, Almost Famous), would be steering the ship on this one. And it turns out, he did a pretty damn good job.
This video was taped at a secret show at Seattle’s Showbox and from what I’ve read, its going to figure into a Target commercial somehow. The way its cut up though will make you feel like you’re on a tilt-a-whirl. What ultimately gets reinforced by the video, and the non-stop rotation of images behind the band, is that videos don’t make Pearl Jam songs. Pearl Jam does. They are just a great live band and they are once again showing that here.
