In a few days, one of our writers is going to tell you to buy this, but since it’s a mixtape you don’t have to, I’ll just give you the link. I’m talking about Chiddy Bang’s The Swelly Express and it’s really good. Need more? How about it’s accessible, they have a song with Passion Pit, Black Thought’s on it, they rock a variation on MGMT’s “Kids” beat… c’mon, just trust me and click right HERE. Ugh. Paste’s profile of Free Energy made me kind of hate them. So does your review. It’s this unctuous defense of good-time rock-and-roll ("we’re just here to party, and we’re awesome!") that seems more self-serving than fun-loving.

that inescapable feeling you are referring to, is that like when you hear something and you could have sworn you heard it before because of the nostalgic catchy quality? or is is like when you’ve heard a band exactly like said band?
great post by the way!

This comment stream is so meta. Great review Kelly.

no prob. The whole album is excellent, combining some of the harder sonics of Los Angeles with the meat of his debut and obviously difficult to summarize in only 50 words…
I’d say it’s on par with the debut, but better than Los Angeles.

By the way, I really liked the mp3 posted. Thanks.

WHO WROTE THIS...PUKE ! “WHO WROTE THIS...PUKE ! “Picture yourself coasting your bike past space funk palm trees, homeless harpists, vintage video arcades, electronic drum circles, and 60s psychedelic singers who’re waiting for the bus. Cosmogramma is kinda like that if someone suddenly tripped you just as you’re starting to enjoy the ride. But in a good way.””

way to blow up my spot!
kidding of course. thanks for spreading the good word.
I had to. You showed me the goodness that is this mixtape. And just when i thought i had my top ten hip hop list under control, this gets thrown at me. Love the Sufjan Stevens “Chicago” usage on the last song too!
with this and tor’s mashup, perhaps 2009 is the year that sufjan finds his true calling: hip-hop producer.
this is the best hiphop group ive ever heard.
money mark: do you like them better than other groups like Outkast, Clipse, UGK, EPMD, (insert other classic group here)? If so, what is it that makes them the best?
Loving this mixtape very much,
thank you for the great links.
