Easy Star All-Stars take on the Beatles

text: Matt Carr

Brooklyn’s Easy Star All-Stars song-by-song reggae and dub interpretations of canonical albums has finally led them to the Beatles: Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band. While the more esoteric material on Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and Radiohead’s Ok Computer served as a fun platform for the group’s refreshing Dub Side of the Moon and Radiodread, I’m not sure the pure pop sounds of the Beatles warrant the same service. Maybe I’ve just heard these songs too many times? Take a listen and tell us what you think.

this is one of the coolest things i’ve heard in a while. at least since that brother ali show you put up last week. i agree that bitte orca is great. hearing “stillness is the move” live at sxsw this year pretty much blew my mind.

It’s nice to see artists using the entire sandbox to play in instead of just sticking to their corner.

i know colin mentioned this in an earlier post - but i really love hip-hop’s recent usage/acknowledgment of the indie rock scene. the results are fantastic. this record will be in my top ten of the year for sure.

would love to know what you like so much about it. I just don’t get it.

Wow, if this isn’t one of the highlights, then I need to hear the album. I love this.

Just listened to the album, and I agree with Roger - definitely my favorite track.

And what is doubly interesting is how young they are.
