Have Yourself A Wicked Hip-Hop Christmas with djBC and Black Element

text: Colin McLaughlin

Even though I believe that A Charlie Brown Christmas is the undisputed champ of the holiday music playlist, I try to leave a bit of room in my heart for others. I’m especially fond of people who treat Christmas songs as an opportunity to laugh rather than as a time of quiet reverence. I have enough things to revere. Shit, Thanksgiving just made me spout off everything that I hold dear out loud; can’t I just have a good time with my friends and my music? Judging from the video for “Wicked Hip-Hop Christmas,” djBC and rapper Black Element would probably agree with me. Here, Santa Claus raps and Boston accents get tossed around the room like it was going out of style. It won’t unseat Charlie Brown, but its a helluva lot better than Amy Grant or whatever Muzak is peddling at the storefronts. Holla at ya boy!

Hey Merseilles did a live web show at sonicbirds office gig on Friday that was pretty spectacular. Can anyone find a copy of that?

Kelli Shaefer’s songs get stuck in my head non-stop. Every other day I find myself waking up with one in there. And that’s a good thing, she’s a talent!

nice pics Chris. Don’t you love it when the artist brings some cool light. It’s a bunch of low hanging fruit after that.
