Health’s Hedonistic Tendencies

text: Colin McLaughlin

Health’s new, self directed video, Die Slow begins by blasting your retinas with radiating colors and ends with an infomercial-like pitch screen filled up with the following phrases: You don’t have to be 19 to like a band like this. You don’t have to listen to music 8 hours a day. You don’t have to be narcissistic or shallow.

You’re right, Health. I don’t have to be 19 to appreciate scattershot images of hot steppin’ model types and writhing bodies in some sort of blood orgy when they’re backed by grinding electro pulses and building synths. Any age is right for that.  It’s also hard not to appreciate the juxtaposition of the reserved, almost ambivalent vocals against the charging musical frame. It’s a serious bit of push and pull on your senses.

Via Stereogum. Off the album, Get Color, out Sept. 8th.

Health to your liking? You'll sweat:

what is this? the dark side of health? this video is in so many ways contradictory to “health”. your healthy so im gonna kill you?? What?? if you’re sayn its nice to have healthy skin to show off and flexible bodys (bingo!) i guess thats it. but that isnt what health is all about. this is pointless.
