Is Kate Moss the next Yoko?

text: matt carr

Supermodel Kate Moss, the ex-girlfriend of former Libertines frontman Pete Doherty, has a thing for musicians. Apparently, she also has a thing for trashing their music. During an argument with current beau Jamie Hince, the guitarist for the Kills, Moss threw his bag into the swimming pool. Unfortunately for Hince, the bag contained a laptop with the only copies of six new Kills songs. “Jamie was absolutely livid and kept yelling, ‘Why would you do such a f***ing stupid thing?!’” said a source on the scene. Apparently, Moss has promised to buy Hince a new computer. No word yet on how she’ll repay him for the songs, but hopefully it’s not with her own writing. According to the Daily Mirror, the supermodel has written half a song which she is desperate for Hince to perform—with her on stage. Is that you Yoko?

Why were the only copies of 6 new Kills songs on a laptop within reaching distance of Kate Moss? Doesn’t sound like the safest idea…

Right? That’s what you get, I guess.

serriously kate moss is nowhere near yoko. Yoko was a very talented artist in her own right who was blamed for the falling apart of the Beatles partly because of her foriegness i would wager.

john’s relationship with yoko did tear apart the beatles. well documented.

Without Yoko’s influence John Lennon would have remained a lightweight pop star. She is responsible for turning him into a true artist. Kate Moss doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Yoko. No comparison!

John Lennon and lightweight belong no where near each other.

yes, thanks to Yoko’s avante garde influences… simply compare his creative output before and after Yoko… he metamorphosed from a skiffle group pop-rocker into something quite amazing… John himself said many times that he would be nothing without Yoko… and he should know better than any of us!

yoko is a genius, plain and simple, so was john, they were a perfect match, such a tragedy, please don’t compare kate moss and her tantrums to the greatest couple in rock’n’roll history

yoko is a hack who adds nothing to the musical canon. I truly believe that.

“yoko is a hack who adds nothing to the musical canon”

Yoko is an artist, not a musician, so what’s your point? I wonder if you’ve actually seen and experienced her artwork or if you’re passing judgement based on total ignorance (my guess is the latter).

Ugh. Paste’s profile of Free Energy made me kind of hate them. So does your review. It’s this unctuous defense of good-time rock-and-roll ("we’re just here to party, and we’re awesome!") that seems more self-serving than fun-loving.

that inescapable feeling you are referring to, is that like when you hear something and you could have sworn you heard it before because of the nostalgic catchy quality? or is is like when you’ve heard a band exactly like said band?

great post by the way!

no prob. The whole album is excellent, combining some of the harder sonics of Los Angeles with the meat of his debut and obviously difficult to summarize in only 50 words… smile I’d say it’s on par with the debut, but better than Los Angeles.

WHO WROTE THIS...PUKE ! “WHO WROTE THIS...PUKE !  “Picture yourself coasting your bike past space funk palm trees, homeless harpists, vintage video arcades, electronic drum circles, and 60s psychedelic singers who’re waiting for the bus. Cosmogramma is kinda like that if someone suddenly tripped you just as you’re starting to enjoy the ride. But in a good way.””
