King Midas Sound (includes The Bug) make a mix

text: Colin McLaughlin

FACT mixes, like all mixes, can be hit and miss. The one I posted by the xx was especially good (and if you don’t have that yet, pick it up here), but sometimes they can be fairly lackluster, coasting on an artist’s name rather than their skill in song selection. I don’t think that’s the case here. So, get ready, because the next one I’m putting in front of you is supposed to be audio gold. It’s by King Midas Sound, who are an English trio consisting of Kevin ‘The Bug’ Martin, Roger Robinson and Hitomi. FACT’s description says it’s “All live edited, with special effects and additional vocals and commentary from the London trio” and they go on to say how pleased they are with it. Since they don’t always do that, I think it deserves a listen. I know I’m going in after it because DJs have a tendency to understand mix creation better than an artist would; I mean, it’s their livelihood, their craft, their true blue skill. If you are still on the fence, you can check out the tracklist below or you can be brave and click the download link right HERE. It hurts no one. Enjoy.

that inescapable feeling you are referring to, is that like when you hear something and you could have sworn you heard it before because of the nostalgic catchy quality? or is is like when you’ve heard a band exactly like said band?

great post by the way!

no prob. The whole album is excellent, combining some of the harder sonics of Los Angeles with the meat of his debut and obviously difficult to summarize in only 50 words… smile I’d say it’s on par with the debut, but better than Los Angeles.

WHO WROTE THIS...PUKE ! “WHO WROTE THIS...PUKE !  “Picture yourself coasting your bike past space funk palm trees, homeless harpists, vintage video arcades, electronic drum circles, and 60s psychedelic singers who’re waiting for the bus. Cosmogramma is kinda like that if someone suddenly tripped you just as you’re starting to enjoy the ride. But in a good way.””
