Lil Wayne is going to jail

text: Colin McLaughlin

DNA evidence is about to rob us of hot bars as it has forced Lil Wayne to plead guilty to a gun charge (a.40 caliber pistol was found on his tour bus). So the question becomes, do T.I. and Wayne get to share a cell, allowing them morph into a new super duo, one half trap rap, one half Martian? Doubtfully promising? In terms of sentence, I’m looking at reports that he will get a year here and other reports that he’ll accept a 8 month plea agreement there. So it’s one of the two. Either way, all the new girl R&B singers and Drake are just going to have to find someone else to guest on their records for awhile. I suggest Andre 3000 because he needs to come out and play. WTF Andre. Over and out.

Lil Wayne to your liking? You'll sweat:

Lil Wayne may have done some bad stuff but it wasnt his fault da crackers found dat gun in his bus. Maybe he was using dat to protect hisself. Yall nedd to stop jumping to conclusion before yall can judge Lil Wayne. MY HOPES AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO U

It was obviously someone else’s fault that the gun was found. Probably whoever hid the gun in a Louis Vitton bag and tossed it out the window (Wayne).

But totally, if he was just going to use it to protect himself (like how most weapons in bags thrown out windows are used), it’s all good. Cops, man.

He was also using the following to protect himself, as it was also found on his tour bus:

    105 grams of marijuana
    29 grams of cocaine
    41 grams of ecstasy
    drug paraphernalia
    a handgun

A different handgun. The previous year.

Helluva fine artist. A fairly middlin’ criminal, me thinks.

    ari: ha!

and, is it just me, or do others find wayne terribly grating? after listening to 5 of his tracks it feels like i’ve been listening for an hour and a half. getting through an entire record is an extreme feat. don’t get me wrong - i think he’s a great rapper. but only in small doses.

wow haters your lips must cant move as fast as his. the other reason mayb your brain cant follow up the words he be saying.

Tasha hines just stand down… Lil Wayne deserves this for what he has done. All of his songs are the same and about him and what he is doing and not what he has done. He doesn’t even write his own music but maybe sometimes he does free style a little bit. He still isn’t a legit writer of music.

  1. 10adasha Wed Feb 17, 2010 | 12:04 pm

Lil wayne don’t need to go to jail. he fans an Young Money needs him.

  1. 11ari Thu Feb 18, 2010 | 12:39 pm

@adasha comment 9: I totally agree. He will always be in jail or out of jail.

Relatedly, melophobe’s editor will always be in jail or out of jail, with a high probability that the former is more likely.

I am white, but definitely not a racist. What the hell is he being hauled off to jail cuz he had a gun on his bus. He’s famous, he needs protection. Come to think of it these days we all do. What is wrong with the system. Why don’t they go out and track down some of these pedipiles instead of people who just want protection that they will never get from the cops

  1. 13colin Tue Feb 23, 2010 | 09:50 pm

@sarah redhawk: I’m all for Lil Wayne making music and doing his thing, but I also don’t mind that he has to play by the same rules as the rest of us. If he wanted a gun, he should have got a permit. Easy to do.

As to your second point, can’t the cops track down pedophiles and illegal gun owners? With an emphasis on pedophiles, obviously.

Ugh. Paste’s profile of Free Energy made me kind of hate them. So does your review. It’s this unctuous defense of good-time rock-and-roll ("we’re just here to party, and we’re awesome!") that seems more self-serving than fun-loving.

that inescapable feeling you are referring to, is that like when you hear something and you could have sworn you heard it before because of the nostalgic catchy quality? or is is like when you’ve heard a band exactly like said band?

great post by the way!

no prob. The whole album is excellent, combining some of the harder sonics of Los Angeles with the meat of his debut and obviously difficult to summarize in only 50 words… smile I’d say it’s on par with the debut, but better than Los Angeles.
