It isn’t much of a stand to say that ‘The Wire’ is the best show that television has ever seen, but I’m making it anyway. That show was perfection and took a complex subject, like the decline of an American city and brought it to life by showing all the angles and organizations that enabled its destruction. Let’s see if they can do the same for the following subject...the music industry. Yes, another complex story about decline is on the horizon as the makers of the ‘The Wire’ has optioned Appetite for Self-Destruction: The Spectacular Crash of the Record Industry in the Digital Age, a book by Rolling Stone writer Steve Knopper. And as us music fans know, there is a wealth of failings to choose from. Just think, you can meet another 531 characters, see some crying over sold leer jets and watch as executives try to bully new artists into 360 deals. Bring it, makers of the Wire. Music lovers need a holy grail show just for them.

I’d like to clarify that for this show they cut off the back half of Neumo’s floor with a curtain and had the upstairs bar closed. It made Neumo’s obviously seem much smaller than it is. Unfortunately, now having seen Neumo’s fully open at another show I can say that this show was very empty. Still White Denim and Brazos rocked.

I agree, it’s very good. Way to deflate their balloon.

Love the photos. And that “Walkabout” song is the drugs.

this sounds potentially brilliant. i wonder who is meant by the “makers” of the wire. david simon is working on a series for hbo involving musicians in new orleans. which sounds awesome, but clearly different than this project.
I was wondering who the “makers” were too. If David Simon isn’t on it, I wouldn’t be worried because he didn’t single handedly write and conceptualize The Wire, however, I would like to see a strong section of the writing staff on it, at the very least. But you know what, even if it was a producer from The Wire and no one else, I’m still going to watch this show because of the content.
