Here’s some fantastic news from Vinyl Vintage News:
Rolling Stone talked with Bruce Springsteen’s manager, Jon Landau, to find out what the Boss does after two years on the road.
First up is a deluxe box set of the 1977 album Darkness on the Edge of Town. Much like the Born to Run box from 2005, the Darkness box will include a remastered version of the album, a documentary on the making of the LP and live footage from the 1978 tour that supported the album.
“The Darkness box set is 93 percent done. It’s absolutely fantastic and there are just some finishing touches that we need to turn our attention to and finalize and we’ll get it out there.”
Also up for next year is a DVD of the Working on a Dream Tour. This will be a bit tough as this tour has moved in so many different directions including the requests portion of the shows and, of course, the complete performances of many of Springsteen’s classic albums.
“We’re working on some different approaches to a DVD for this tour. We’ll release it sometime fairly soon, post-Christmas.”
Don’t look for any new material from Springsteen or the band next year. They are all looking for some downtime after almost two straight years on the road.

My copy of the new Springsteen book arrived, and I can confirm it is an ESSENTIAL keepsake for anyone who cares not only about Bruce in 1978, but also gaining insight into perhaps the single greatest rock and roll tour of all time. The layout, photos and vignettes are amazing, including a surprising memory involving Adele and Douglas Springsteen.You’ll want The Light in Darkness for Xmas 2009.
With the much-anticipated release of a commemorative box set for Darkness on the Edge of Town slated for this Christmas, Bruce Springsteen’s classic record is getting renewed attention in the music world. Details on the project are scarce; however, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Steven Van Zandt mentioned that about 10 unreleased songs will be included in the box set. Fans are surely hungry for any and all material they can get from the 1978 recording sessions and subsequent tour.
